Documentation of the Dialogue Forum “No longer ‚one size fits all‘ in ending poverty? The MDGs and the Post-2015 Agenda from a Human Rights Perspective” with Mwangi Waituru

In this presentation, Mwangi Waituru criticizes the MDGs for their “one size fits all” approach to development and their focus on donor countries’ priorities at the expense of recipient countries. Mwangi Waituru further gives an overview of the current discussions on the SDGs, arguing for a legally binding post-2015 agenda based on a human rights perspective and the principle of “common but differentiated responsibilities”.nMwangi Waituru is a Kenyan academic and activist, currently working on a Ph.D. in philosophy at the Kenyatta University in Nairobi. He serves as co-chair of the Beyond 2015 campaign which aims at creating a strong and legitimate successor framework to the MDGs. He is also a director of the Kenyan NGO The Seed Institute which is concerned with questions of poverty and inequality. Waituru also writes articles and essays addressing issues of fair and effective South-North cooperation.nThe Dialogue Forum “No longer ‚one size fits all‘ in ending poverty? The MDGs and the Post-2015 Agenda from a Human Rights Perspective” with Mwangi Waituru was part of the project “African Perspectives on Global Challenges in the context of the Post-2015 Agenda Process” conducted by AfricAvenir e.V. in 2014/2015.
