AfricAvenir attends DIFF 2014 with support of the Goethe Centre Windhoek

The Durban International Film Festival will take place for the 35th time from 17 to 27 July 2014. The Namibian section of AfricAvenir will once again be attending the festival and is looking forward to this great festival, as it offers many opportunities, such as great films from Africa, the Durban Film Mart, seminars, workshops, and last but not least crucial networking opportunities. nFurthermore it enables the Namibian branch to be at the heart pulse of the international and African cinema industries and to engage with filmmakers from the continent and to select films for the Namibian audiences. nAfricAvenir Namibia director says: “Several of the films showing at DIFF 2014 have been already screened by AfricAvenir in Windhoek, such as The Pardon, Nairobi Half Life, Miners Shot Down, to mention but a few. But we look forward to the newest releases from South Africa and the continent, such as Abderrahmane Sissako’s “Timbuktu”, which was one of the most stunning films in this years Cannes competition. I personally am a huge fan of Sissako’s work and hence am really longing to watch the film, and hopefully, share it with Namibian audiences”. nAs Mahnke explains, film festivals are an important meeting place in order to know what is being released and in order to bring back home cinematic products to the Namibian viewers. To this end, the Goethe-Centre Windhoek this year is co-sponsoring the attendance of AfricAvenir at DIFF 2014. “We are very grateful for this assistance.” nRuth Suermann, Managing Director of the Goethe Centre Windhoek states: “We believe, that networking and exchange is very important for the cultural scene to release and receive new impulses. It is a great pleasure to support AfricAvenir going to Durban International Film Festival, because we are sure that Namibias film scene and friends of African movies will benefit from it. It is always good to have you here in Goethe Centre! Thanks AfricAvenir!!!!”
