AfricAvenir Douala and Le Messager Commemorate 130 Years of Anti-Colonial Resistance in Cameroon
Anti-colonial resistance in Cameroon has not started with Rudolf Duala Manga Bell in 1914, as is often written, but with Kum’a Mbape (Lock Priso) in August 1884. Lock Priso has thus waged a fierce resistance from the very beginning of colonial occupation until the departure of the Germans from Cameroonian soil. The protest telegram of Cameroonian Kings against their expropriation which was addressed to the German Chancellor Bethmann Holweg on the 24 Novembre 1913 is signed by the following Kings « Bell, Akwa, Deido, Kum’a Mbape ». In 2014, it will be 130 years that Lock Priso has claimed the independence of his territory as the basis of peace and development. nTo commemorate these 130 years of resistance, Editions AfricAvenir/Exchange & Dialogue and the newspaper Le Messager will publish 8 extracts of hitherto unpublished documents (in French) which will form part of the new book by Prince Kum’a Ndumbe III « PULL THAT FLAG DOWN – NO MAN BUY WE !
