"On the Inside" tells the story of Arusha Ntarama, who lost everything in a massacre in Nyankunde, Congo – her dignity, her husband, her children. At the event of Simon Taylor, Minister for Economic Development in the Congo, checking in at the Brandenburger Hof in Berlin as a guest of the Mayor of Berlin, she storms his hotel room armed with a gun to take him to task. "On the Inside" is a story about the search for justice and the fragile nature of truth. It is – condensed into a small space – a parable of all civil wars, the victims and the perpetrators. Background is the true story of a massacre in Kivu 2002.n"A film about the deadliest conflict since the Second World War, ignored by world opinion,. It doesn´t need the manipulative images of Western media and strongly questions  the responsibility of the West." (Eric Van Grassdorff, AfricAvenir). nThe screening will be followed by a discussion with the director Uwe Janson, co-producer Oliver Czeslik and main actress Sheri Hagen and a small reception at the foyer of the cinema.nThe event takes place in cooperation with Jozi.tv, the Initiative of Black People in Germany (ISD), the Ecumenical Network Central Africa and AFROTAK TV Cyber Nomads.nAfricAvenir is distributer for this film in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Instead of a relaxed evening full of comfort, the two are confronted with their past. Arusha, who lost her husband and children in a long-ignored massacre in Congo, takes the two hostage. She wants to expose Taylor as Statehouse Commander Robert Makeni, who is responsible for the massacre and her loss. She wants to find out whether she could have saved her daughters lives with a lie, and she wants revenge … She picks Marco Held, junior manager of the hotel as witness. He is supposed to listen to the truth and is confronted with different representations of reality, unable to act and to choose a side …n“On the Inside” is a story about the search for justice and the fragile nature of truth. It is – condensed into a small space – a parable of all civil wars, the victims and the perpetrators and how the boundaries between them are fluent. Whether in Kosovo, Libya or Azerbaijan, war crimes are being committed everywhere. The background to this film is the true story of a massacre in Kivu in 2002. What happened there was kept secret for a long time. Without the world opinion taking note, in the last 20 years more than 5 million people have died in atrocious circumstances in the Republic of Congo. “On The Inside” relocates the events and conflicts into a hotel room in Berlin. nVoices on the filmn"As long as human rights are violated on a daily basis, films such as "On the inside" are a must for everyone who does not have to ask him_herself whether s_he can survive the next day." Sheri Hagenn"I was very moved by the scrpit of "On the Inside". The issue to me was very important. African and Black actresses are normally very stereotyped as shown in German film productions […]"On The Inside" is not in accordance with these stereotypes but rather gives space to a reflection that encourages discourse and gives black actresses the opportunity to delve into different characters and give life to them." Sheri Hagenn"My character of Marco Held to me is a symbol of Europe’s attitude in dealing with the conflicts and problems of Africa. To want problems, but ultimately to remain passive and not to act." Ken Dukenn"As the role offer came, I was skeptical at first – white men  making a black film, but after casting "On The Inside" convinced me. It is not just a film about Africa." Tyron Rickettsn"On the Inside" is the story of all wars and all the victims, it is a story that every mother in the world can understand – how would I react if I lost my kids and my husband in the war? We chose Kivu in the  background because it is one of the forgotten massacres that became known only after some victims raised their voices. At that time victims of such crimes could not press charges, but were only heard as witnesses. Now it’s different. Arusha arises because she wants the truth to be heard. In thhis process she finds herself in a situation in which it is no longer clear who is victim and who is perpetrator." Uwe Jansonn"The story is set in a hotel room in Berlin, not in Africa and is  told from different perspectives. Marco Held is helplessly trapped in the conflict, and reminds us of the reactions of the UN and the EU in African conflicts." Uwe Jansonn"With our film, we wanted to give a face to the unknown, look behind the facades of victims and perpetrators. By turning from victim to perpetrator, we show the dark, cruel side of dehumanization." Oliver Czeslikn"A film about the deadliest conflict since the Second World War, ignored by world opinion,. It doesn´t need the manipulative images of Western media and strongly questions  the responsibility of the West."
