"Am 04. September um 19.30 Uhr lädt AfricAvenir in Kooperation mit der Werkstatt der Kulturen zu einer Gedenkveranstaltung zum 50. Todestag von Ruben um Nyobe ein. Einführend zeigen wir den Dokumentarfilm „Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance“ (OF) von Gaelle Le Roy und Valérie Osouf in Premiere.  Valérie Osouf, Filmemacherin, Frankreich nDer in Deutschland gänzlich unbekannte kamerunische Unabhängigkeitskämpfer Ruben Um Nyobe gilt als einer der großen afrikanischen Visionäre der afrikanischen Unabhängigkeiten. Als einer der Mitbegründer der ersten nationalen Partei Kameruns (Union des Populations Camerounaises, UPC) trat Um Nyobe für die Einheit des Vielvölkerstaats seines Landes und gegen die alleinige Identifikation mit der eigenen Volksgruppe ein. Um Nyobe führte den bewaffneten Widerstand gegen die koloniale Besetzung an, der von der Kolonialmacht Frankreich mit erschreckender Brutalität niedergeschlagen wurde. 1958 wurde er von französischen Truppen erschossen. Mehr über Um Nyobe, s. unten. nDazu zeigen wir den erst kürzlich fertig gestellten Dokumentarfilm „Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance“ (Kamerun – Autopsie einer Unabhängigkeit) in Deutschlandpremiere. Der Film von Gaelle Le Roy und Valérie Osouf nimmt den Mythos der „friedlichen Dekolonisierung“ des subsaharischen Afrikas kritisch unter die Lupe. Anhand vieler Interviews und Originalbilder beleuchtet dieser hervorragend recherchierte Dokumentarfilm ein bisher wenig bekanntes Kapitel französischer Kolonialgeschichte. nDiskussionsgäste: 
 Valérie Osouf ist Filmemacherin und hat sich im Rahmen des Films intensiv mit der französischen Kolonialherrschaft in Kamerun und der Person Um Nyobe beschäftigt. 
 Dr. Mbembe gilt als einer der prominentesten und international renommiertesten afrikanischen Denker und Analytiker der Gegenwart und als Experte über Ruben Um Nyobe und Kameruns Befreiungskrieg gegen Frankreich.  et Première de : „Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance“, Documéntaire, F 2008, en Francais nAvec: Dr. Achille Mbembe et Valérie Osouf nJeudi, le 04 septembre ? 19.30 heures AfricAvenir vous invite ? la Werkstatt der Kulturen pour une soirée de commémoration ? l’occasion des 50 ans de la mort du martyr camerounais pour les indépendances africaines Ruben Um Nyobe. Après des interventions du Dr. Achille Mbembe et de la réalisatrice Valérie Osouf, nous montrerons le documentaire « Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance » (première). Les interventions et les débats se feront en anglais et français. nRuben Um Nyobe a défendu la cause des indépendances africaines dès les années 50, notamment auprès de l’ONU et est considéré comme l’un des plus grands visionnaires africains. Cofondateur du premier parti national camerounais (Union des Populations Camerounaises, UPC), il s’est également engagé par ses écrits pour l’unité des multiples populations de l’Etat et contre une identification restreinte à son propre groupe de population. Um Nyobe était à la tête de la résistance armée (guerilla) contre l’occupation coloniale, mouvement réprimé par l’armée coloniale française avec une brutalité inouïe. Il a été assassiné par les troupes françaises en 1958. Plus d’infos: http://africavenir.org/news/2008/08 nSuite à une introduction thématique, nous projetterons le documentaire „Cameroun – Autopsie d’une indépendance“ (V.O. en français) réalisé par Gaelle Le Roy et Valérie Osouf, une première en Allemagne. Coup de projecteur critique sur le mythe d’une "décolonisation pacifique" de l’Afrique subsaharienne. Bombardements au napalm, expéditions punitives, massacres de civils… La France a mené au Cameroun, avec une brutalité inouïe, une guerre secrète pour son indépendance énergétique. Dix pour cent de la population camerounaise y a laissé sa vie ! Certes, le pays obtient "l’indépendance" en 1960, mais les massacres se poursuivront pendant 20 ans sous la présidence du président Ahidjo. Un documentaire extrêmement fourni en interviews et images originales, qui éclaire un sujet peu connu de l’histoire coloniale française. Le film sera suivi d’un débat avec le Dr. Achille Mbembe (politologue, auteur de publications fondamentales sur le sujet) et l’une des réalisatrices, Valérie Osouf. nValérie Osouf, une des deux réalisatrices, s´est beaucoup penchée sur l´époque en question. Présentement elle est en train de réaliser son premier long métrage « Marie et Djibril » et un documentaire historique sur les « révoltes » ? Brixton 1981. En outre Valérie Osouf développe une installation vidéo avec le peintre Marc Solal qui sera terminé en Janvier 2009. nDr. Mbembe n´est pas seulement un des penseur et analyste les plus éminents et renommés au niveau international, mais aussi un expert sur Ruben Um Nyobe et la guerre de l´indépendance du Cameroun contre la France. Il a publié plusieurs livres, entre autres « Ruben Um Nyobe. Le problème national Camerounais » et « La naissance du maquis dans le Sud-Cameroun »

 nWith: Dr. Achille Mbembe and Valérie Osouf 
 nOn thursday 4th september at 7.30 p.m. AfricAvenir and the Werkstatt der Kulturen invite you to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the death of Cameroonian politician and liberation fighter Ruben Um Nyobe. After an introduction by Dr. Achille Mbembe and Valérie Osouf, we will screen the new documentary ""Cameroon – Autopsy of an Indeüendence"" which critically looks at the french myth of ""peaceful decolonisation"" of sub-saharan Africa. After the film, a discussion will take place with Dr. Achille Mbembe and Valérie Osouf. 
 NB: Unfortunately, the producers have not been able to finalize the english subtitles of the film on time for our screening so that the film will be screened in french only. We will however provide a thorough introduction in english and the discussions after the film will be in english (and french). nRuben Um Nyobe 
 Ruben Um Nyobe is not well known outside Cameroon and completely unknown in Germany, this although he was one of the great African Visionaries of the African Independences which he . As one of the founding member of the first national Cameroonian Party (Union of the Peoples of Cameroon, UPC) Um Nyobe vigorously defended the unity of his culturally diverse country and argued against cleavages between the different cultural groups or nations. Um Nyobe also lead the armed struggle (guerilla war) against french colonial occupation which was brutally repremended by the french army. On 13 September 1958, he was shot dead by the french near his home village of Boumyebel. nAs an introduction to the period and the topic of french colonialism in Cameroon, we will screen the recent documentary ""Cameroon – Autopsy of an Independence"" as a Germany Premiere. The film which was made by Gaelle Le Roy und Valérie Osouf critically looks at the french myth of ""peaceful decolonisation"" of sub-saharan Africa. Bombings, punitive missions, massacres… France fought a war in Cameroon, a war to preserve its own energetic independence. 10 % of the Cameroonian population died in this process of ""decolonisation"". And while the country finally gained independence in 1960, the massacres continued for another 20 years under the presidency of President Ahidjo. An extremely informative and well researched documentary full of interviews and original footage on hardly known chapter of french colonial history. nThe film will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Achille Mbembe (political scientist) and Valérie Osouf (filmmaker). nValérie Osouf is one of the filmmakers of the mentioned documentary and has done intense reaserch on the topic of french colonialism, especially in Cameroon. She is presently working on a her first feature film « Marie et Djibril » and on a documentary on the Brixton Uprising of 1981. She is also preparing an video installation with the artist Marc Solal which will be presented in January 2009. 
 Dr. Mbembe is one of the most renowned African experts and thinkers of our time. He was one of the first scholars to research and publish on the said period and on the person Ruben Um Nyobe.
