“50 Years of Independence – Let’s take a look at …Tanzania“ – Dialogue-Forum with Tundu Lissu on Monday 12 December, 19.00 hrs
On Monday 12 December, 19.00 hrs AfricAvenir in cooperation with Tansania-Netzwerk and Berlin Postkolonial invites to a Dialogue Forum (in English) with tanzanian politician and human rights activist Tundu Lissu at Haus der Demokratie und Menschenrechte (Robert-Havemann-Saal). Mainland Tanzania officially became independent fifty years ago. It’s time to celebrate but also to take a look back at the country’s policy of "people-centred development" and its impact on society (Tumethubutu, tumeweza tunazidi kusonga mbele). Born out of colonial rule, close ties between the Western world and with Germany have strongly influenced the development of this young state ever since its independence. But times have changed and so has Tanzania. New economic forces and dynamic social changes are transforming the country and shaping future generations. Together with our speakers, from the perspective of Tanzanian civil society, we will explore the potential for "people-centred development" in the wake of future economic, ecological and social upheavals.
Tundu Lissu (CHADEMA), Tanzanian politician for the opposition, human rights activist and lawyer, will provide an analysis of Tanzanian independence, which will be followed by a comment from Fulgens Kisalya, member of the board, Association of Tanzanians in Berlin/Brandenburg (UWATAB).
