Im Rahmen der Filmreihe ‚african reflections – female directors in cinema’ präsentieren wir am Sonntag, 26. August 2007 um 17:30 Uhr den Film Barakat! von Djamila Sahraoui. Der Film ist der Preisträger des diesjährigen FESPACO in den Kategorien Bestes Erstlingswerk, Bestes Drehbuch und Beste Filmmusik. Irgendwo in Algerien in den 90er Jahren. Amel arbeitet als Notärztin in einem Krankenhaus. Sie bemüht sich, ihren Beruf so gut es geht auszuüben und ihr Leben als junge Frau zu leben, trotz des zwischen Islamisten und der Armee wütenden Bürgerkrieges. Als sie eines Abends von einem langen Einsatz nach Hause kommt, ist ihr Mann, ein Journalist, verschwunden. Angesichts der Gleichgültigkeit und Trägheit der Behörden beschließt sie, auf eigene Faust nach ihm zu suchen. Sie wird begleitet von Khadija, einer energischen und lebenslustigen Krankenschwester. Im Laufe einer ungewissen und gefährlichen Reise, lernen sich die beiden Frauen kennen und treten zugleich den Männern in ihrem Land entgegen…n

1950 in Algerien geboren, hat Djamila Sahraoui Literatur in Algier und Regie am Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques in Paris studiert. Sie war unter anderem Preisträgerin der Villa Médicis Hors les Murs. Sie hat die Drehbücher zu den Filmen Houria, einem 1980 produzierten Kurzfilm, und Avoir 2000 ans dans les Aurès und Prénom Marianne, zwei dokumentarischen Kurzfilmen von 1990 bzw. 1992, geschrieben. Mit La Moitié du ciel d’Allah (1995) begann sie ihre Chronik über die algerische Gesellschaft, gefolgt von Algérie, la vie quand même (1999), der in ihrer Heimatstadt Tazmalt gedreht wurde Algérie, la vie toujours en 2002. 2000 realisierte sie den von France 3 produzierten Dokumentarfilm Opération Télé-cités und im Jahr 2003 den Film Et les arbres poussent en Kabylie. nPressestimmen

‘african reflections’ findet statt in Kooperation mit dem Filmtheater Hackesche Höfe und mit freundlicher Unterstützung der Landesstelle für Entwicklungszusammenarbeit (LEZ) bei der Senatsverwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technologie und Frauen. Medienpartner ist radio multikulti.

Algeria. The 1990s. Amel is an emergency room doctor at the hospital. She tries to do her job and to live the everyday life of a young woman as good as she can in spite of civil war between the Islamic resistance movement and the army.
When Amel gets home one evening after an urgent emergency, her journalist husband, has disappeared. Facing the indifference and idleness of the authorities, she decides to look for him on her own account. She is accompanied by Khadija, her colleague in hospital, a humurous and energetic nurse in her early sixties, who recovers in the case the reflexes, trickery and disguises of her days fighting the French army in the early 1960s. nA dangerous and uncertain trip starts where the two women get to know each other better and better, confronting the men of their country… n„In my film I wanted to show neither caged submissive women as presented in most Algerian movies, nor heroines that are out of touch with reality and who negate themselves in the name of history. Born in 1950 in Algeria, Djamila Sahraoui lives in France since 1975. After Literature studies in Algiers, she graduated from the Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques (sections direction and editing) in Paris and wins the Villa de Médicis prize “Hors les Murs”. She is the author of Houria (1980), a short fiction film, Avoir 2000 ans dans les Aurès (“Having 2000 years in Aurès“, 1990) and Prénom Mariannne (“First name Marianne”, 1992), two documentary short films. With La Moitié du ciel d’Allah (1995), she begins a chronicle on the Algerian society, followed by Algérie, la vie quand même (“Algeria, the life nevertheless“, 1999), shot in Tazmalt her birthplace and Algérie, la vie toujours (“Algeria the life always”, 2002).In 2000 she actualizes Opération Télé-cités a documentary produced by France 3 and directs the film Et les arbres poussent en Kabylie in 2003. nBarakat! is her first feature film. nPress commentaries

Dans le cadre de la série cinématographique « African reflections – female directors in cinema » (metteurs en scène féminins au cinéma), nous présentons le dimanche 26 août ? 17h30 le film « Barakat ! » de Djamila Sahraoui récompensé par plusieurs prix dont le prix de la meilleure première œuvre, du meilleur scénario et de la meilleure musique du FESPACO. Quelque part en Algérie, dans les années 1990. Amel est médecin urgentiste ? l’hôpital. Elle s’efforce, tant bien que mal, d’exercer son métier et de vivre sa vie de jeune femme, malgré la guerre civile qui fait rage entre les islamistes et l’armée. Un soir, de retour chez elle après une longue garde, Amel constate la disparition de son mari journaliste. Devant l’indifférence et l’inertie des autorités, elle décide de partir ? sa recherche de son propre chef. Elle est accompagnée de Khadija, infirmière énergique et gouailleuse qui, dans sa jeunesse, s’est illustrée dans les combats pour l’indépendance. nAu fil d’un périple incertain et périlleux, les deux femmes vont se découvrir l’une l’autre, en même temps qu’elles se confronteront aux hommes de leur pays…

Je ne souhaitais pas non plus présenter des héroïnes coupées de la réalité, qui se renient au nom de l’histoire. Née en Algérie en 1950, Djamila Sahraoui a étudié la littérature ? Alger et la régie ? l’Institut des Hautes Études Cinématographiques de Paris. Elle a été, par ailleurs, lauréate de la Villa Médicis Hors les Murs. Elle est l’auteur de Houria un court métrage de fiction, réalisé en 1980, et de deux courts métrages documentaires réalisés en 1990 et 1992. C’est avec La Moitié du ciel d’Allah en 1995, qu’elle débute sa chronique sur la société algérienne, suivie du film Algérie, la vie quand même en 1999, tourné ? Tazmalt, sa ville natale et Algérie la vie toujours en 2002. En 2000, elle réalise Opération Télé-cités, un documentaire produit par France 3. En 2003 elle réalise Et les arbres poussent en Kabylie. nCommentaires de presse
