In Cooperation: LIFELINES # 2 Nuruddin Farah: Readings, Discussions, Films, Poetry Slam

Between 02.12.2009 and 04.12.2009, along with important companions past and present, House of World Cultures Berlin in the events series LEBENSLINIEN will trace the most important paths in the life and work of Nuruddin Farah.

He is cosmopolitan, a polyglot, someone who crosses borders: as one of Africa’s most renowned writers, hotly-tipped to win a Nobel Prize for Literature, Nuruddin Farah is in the spotlight of the second installment of the LEBENSLINIEN (life lines) series , which presents the life work of outstanding musicians, visual artists, writers, and filmmakers.

Farah sees himself as a nomadic citizen of the world, who, despite all his cross-border wanderings, keeps the focus of his creativity on his war-torn homeland, Somalia: In his broad and diverse oeuvre, he tells the world stories about Somalia and Somalia stories about the world. With the persuasive power of his narratives, fables and poetry, Farah’s prose always addresses matters of great social urgency and thus offer critical commentary of contemporary events. Along with important companions past and present, LEBENSLINIEN traces the most important paths in the life and work of Nuruddin Farah.
